Congratulations to our newly elected Master Patrick O’Brien. He is the first “new” Master in a while as we have re-tread Masters for a long spell now. We thank Craig Leifert for his latest tenure in the Master’s chair and know he will enjoy his new seat on the Executive Committee.
Two major projects are in the works at the Grange. First, our AED (defibrillator) project is in the works with the Treasurer working on paperwork for a grant to fund the equipment. With any luck, we will have a new defibrillator available in our hall before long.
The second project is a new one. We recently had a carpenter take a look at the oval window in the pediment above the front door and columns of the Grange Hall. Unfortunately, the frame of the window and the window itself are way beyond repair. We are leaning towards removing the window and residing that portion of the front as the cost to replace this window would exceed $6,000. In its place, we are contemplating having a large Grange emblem created and placed in the former location of the window, complimenting the name of the Grange lettering below it. The window is largely ornamental, providing a small amount of light to the attic. We’ll update you on our progress with these projects in upcoming issues.
Soon it will be time for the 2024 Winchester Grange Fair and Community Tag Sale on August 10. Consider entering the contests of Baking, Flowers, Fruits and Vegetables. Bring friends and family to enjoy the drawings, exhibits, book sale, food and the Community Tag Sale out on the Green. Spaces in the tag sale are free to anyone interested, so come on up on Aug. 10 and set up at table, if you are interested. We would love to have you there!
